Jo Cornell Stables is located in Crestwood, Kentucky. Since 1983 Jo Cornell Stables has provided quality instruction to riders of all ages and ability. In 1993, Jo Cornell opened the facility in Crestwood where we are currently located. Whether you want to just learn how to ride a horse or reach competition level, Jo Cornell Stables has the horses, staff and facilities to help every horse enthusiest reach their personal equestrian goals.
ABOUT Jo Cornell Stables
Jo Cornell has been in the Saddlebred industry for her entire life. She began her riding career as a child riding under the direction of her father, Bob Whitney, a professional horse trainer. Jo attended a four-year program at the University of Kentucky. At 18 Jo realized a passion for instructing children and adults how to ride horses. She started her business riding her horse Pennyrile to students homes in Pewee Valley, Kentucky and giving them riding lessons in the students yard! Jo and Pennyrile quickly built a successful lesson program. She has now been teaching for 52 years and has touched the lives of many riders in those years. Many of these riders reached great success winning World and National titles. Her two daughters, Midge Hunt and Blake Cornell both rode under the direction of Jo and also reached great success. She promotes 4-H, youth clubs, academy, and tournaments in the saddlebred division all while giving children life lessons. Jo was the proud recipeient of the 2001 Helen Crabtree Instructor of the year award and was the coach of the 2008 Saddle Seat World Cup Equestrian Team.
Jo enjoys decorating her porch each summer, planting flowers, decorating with silk flowers, antiquing, refinishing furniure, sewing, spending time with her grandchildren and spending time with her "doggers" Sadie and Sara.
Kristen began riding in 2000 under the direction of Jo Cornell at Jo Cornell Stables. She was lucky to have many opportunities and experiences throughout her riding career. Kristen was a proud member of the 2011 International Invitational team, 2012 Saddle Seat World Cup team, 2013 Saddle Seat Young Rider's team, and the 2014 Saddle Seat World Cup Team. She competed three times nationally and twice internationally earning five gold medals. She graduated from the University of Louisville in 2015 with a Bachlors degree in Equine Business. Following graduation, she joined the Jo Cornell Stables team in 2015. She is now embrassing teaching young children in the Saddlebred industry at Jo Cornell Stables. It is her passion to share her love of this sport with other aspiring youth.
